Nena Daconte is Mai Meneses’ musical project. The band’s name is taken from a character in the short story “The Trail of Your Blood in the Snow”, by Gabriel García Márquez.
She grew up listening to her older siblings’ musical references: The Beatles, The Byrds, The Who, REM, Nacha Pop, Elvis Costello, Los Secretos. Later, she formed a pop rock band with which she played covers of Led Zeppelin, Radiohead or The Cranberries.
Between the chords of the Beatles’ songs and her classical music education, she began to compose her first songs as a form of therapy. Her music mixes classical pop and rock and speaks of concerns such as love, loneliness, and the search for ideals.
Now, Nena Daconte returns to music and does it doubly. First, with the group La La Love You, which has just covered her song “Tenía tanto que darte” with more danceable and disco elements, maintaining the original song’s energetic spirit. And, on the other hand, she returns with the singles “Detrás de cada luz” and “Despiértame, Madrid”, a preview of what will be her new studio album, which will be released at the end of 2022.
